Q.
Can I buy parts or optional accessories for an older
boat? |
|
Top |
A.
Yes we do sell parts direct. Many Parts are
only available for boats up to five years old .
However many currently used parts can fit older
models. Striping replacement for models 2 years old
and older may require the purchase of an entire
stripe kit. Make sure you have your serial number.
Photos are helpful for old seating and wall
replacements. There may be a waiting period to
freight parts from the Avalon USA Factory however
this process can be sped up if air freight is paid
for by the customer. |

Q.
Can I get Mooring or Seat covers from Avalon
for my older boat? |
|
Top |
A.
Due to high expectations regarding fit of covers, we
only supply Mooring and Seat covers when they are
factory installed. We recommend that you contact a
local canvas maker. They usually provide a high
quality cover that will cost no more, or possibly
less, than our factory cover. |

Q.
What
Trailer is best for my pontoon? |
|
Top |
A.
There are two types of trailers for pontoons. The
first is a scissor type trailer that goes under the
deck. This trailer is best when you want to pull the
boat out, transport it short distances, and then put
it on the ground. It is also best if you launch your
boat at a very shallow ramp. The disadvantage is the
fact that it has a narrow wheel base. This makes it
more prone to tipping if too tight a turn is made.
It also tends to exaggerate bumps in the road. This
type of trailer cannot be used for triple pontoon
models.
The second type is a float on
trailer. This trailer is best for transporting the
boat long distances. It spreads the weight of the
boat along bunks that the pontoons rest on. It is
easier to load and unload with this trailer. The
disadvantage is that it sets the boat higher off the
ground. This creates wind resistance during towing.
It can also make launching from a shallow ramp more
difficult.
The float on is
the most widely used type. |

Q.
How fast will my boat go? |
|
Top |
Speed is affected by
many things on a pontoon. The amount and weight of
people on board, their position in the boat, the
altitude, and even the water temperature, believe it
or not.
The following
estimations should not be seen as exclusive to
Avalon & Tahoe brand pontoon boats. Claims that
others can guarantee you speeds or performance in
excess of the following should be investigated
thoroughly. Our goal is to provide you with
information that will result in your satisfaction,
not just sell you a boat.
The following
information is based on 2 people on board.
A. A boat equipped with 2
pontoons and a 40 HP will go approximately 16 MPH
thereafter you can add about 2 MPH for every 10 HP.
B. A boat equipped with 3 pontoons
but not High Performance fins. You can expect
about 1 mph faster than that.
C. Avalon and Tahoe's Center
Tube system with 3 pontoons & high performance fins
are proven, fast, exciting, well built boats that
will provide an excellent platform for water sports.
See video -
Avalon CTS/HPP --
Tahoe CTS/HPP . High performance speeds vary
from model to model. Models that have more
furniture, or more furniture positioned towards the
front will achieve less speed & performance. The
propeller also has a great affect on speed and
performance. The stock propeller provided may not
achieve maximum speed and performance. You should
work with your dealer to get a propeller that meets
your specific use. You should be aware that there
will be additional expense when changing propellers,
or going to a stainless steel or 4 blade propeller.
Following are speeds that we have
seen in a stock propeller configuration However
there is no guarantee of a specific speed for your
rig. - A 90 Hp Motor could go about 26-28 mph .
A 115 HP could go about 28 - 32 mph. a 150 could go
34 - 40 mph. With higher HP models, speeds vary
greatly depending on the HP, Boat model and the way
the boat is setup. You should consult your dealer to
discuss the speed you expect and what configuration
will work best for you.

Q.
Can I use my Avalon
pontoon boat in Saltwater? |
|
Top |
A.
Any boat exposed to
saltwater can be affected by the salt. However, to
minimize the effects of saltwater on our Pontoon,
the following preparation and maintenance should be
followed:
Preparation –
-
If you plan to
use your
boat in saltwater you
must
have all portions of the boat that will be
submerged painted with an approved aluminum
anti-fouling paint. This service is provided
by your dealer or by someone recommended by
your dealer. There is an extra charge for
this service.
-
In some cases
you may need to have zinc anodes added to
your boat to prevent electrolysis.
Electrolysis is a deterioration of the metal
caused by stray electrical current
interacting with the saltwater. Ask your
dealer whether he recommends zinc anodes.
There is an extra charge for this service.
-
If you trailer
your boat
on a trailer
that carries the boat on carpeted bunks you
ANTIFOULING
PAINT on the bottom of the pontoons must be
applied to be sure that the
pontoons have a barrier between them and the
bunks. The application of antifouling paint
is a service provided by your dealer or by
someone recommended by your dealer. There is
an extra charge for this service.
Maintenance –
-
After each use
the entire boat must be washed down with
freshwater to remove salt deposits. Allow
the boat to dry before covering it with the
mooring or seat covers.
-
Cover your
boat WHEN DRY with seat covers or a mooring
cover to keep salt and weather off of your
boat. Since most salt water areas are very
humid and hot it is imperative that the boat
be dry before it is covered. If you cover it
wet you WILL see mildew develop.
-
If you Trailer
you MUST flush the saltwater from in between
the bunks and the pontoons. This does not
prevent corrosion of no anti fouling paint
is applied.
-
A yearly
inspection for corrosion or deterioration of
the electrical connections is recommended.
Avalon Pontoon Boats Australia does NOT
warrant saltwater corrosion.
Some dealers add
additional saltwater resistant materials to our
boats to make them even better suited for saltwater
use. These specially equipped models may have a
sticker called "Saltwater Series" . However this
does not make them Saltwater proof nor keep salt
water from affecting them to some degree. Even
these models must have all of the above described
preparation and maintenance to minimize the affects
of salt water.
Saltwater use should be confined
primarily to bays and inlets. A pontoon is not made
to be an ocean going craft and as such can only be
used in the ocean if conditions are similar to an
inland lake and only close to shore.
